Level 2 Pre-Apprenticeship in Hairdressing

This course is designed to provide a good understanding of the roles, responsibilities and practical skills of a Junior Hairdresser.
How is the course organised
The course is a 1 year programme delivered over 15 hours per week (usually 2 or 3 days).The programme will be delivered by theory sessions, practical workshops and commercial based salons. Independent study is an essential part and requirement of the course. With this programme you will learn the following aspects of Hairdressing:
Style and finish hair
Set and dress hair
Cut hair using basic techniques
Colour and lighten hair
Advise and consult with clients
Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
Plait and twist hair
Cut men's hairstyles
A tutorial programme is mandatory and supports the student throughout their studies with guidance and individual learning plans put into action.
Methods of Assessment
The programme is based on continual assessment and you will be assessed through observation of practical skills, oral questioning, assignment work and written questions. A portfolio will be produced throughout your course of evidence towards your competency.
On successful completion of this course you can enter employment as an apprentice Hairdresser or progression onto a specialised Level 3 Hairdressing pre-employment course which could lead into fashion, television or cruise ship work.
