Functional Skills in Maths and English Level 2

Maths and English (and sometimes IT) are key elements of apprenticeship programmes and if you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C in these subjects you will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate levels.

Skills in Maths and English will support your apprenticeship programme, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C.

How will I be assessed?

For the NVQ you will build up a portfolio, which is a collection of examples or evidence of your work that demonstrates your skills and ability, such as a work diary, photos, statements from your employer and colleagues and examples of completed tasks. Assessment consists of practical tasks, observations, oral questioning, written questions and written tests. Students will be required to bring in their own models for assessment.

The Functional Skills are assessed through online tests.

What could it lead to?

After achieving you will find that you have improved your full-time employment prospects and will be in an ideal situation to progress to such positions as senior therapist consultant, demonstrator for product manufacturers, trainer, therapist on cruise liners and self-employment.

Many learners progress onto management courses or other part-time courses such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Indian Head Massage
