Core Maths is a course that has been developed for any student that has achieved a grade C or higher at GCSE who would like to continue to study Maths but are not suitable for AS level.
The course develops mathematical skills and thinking whilst providing students with the opportunity to use the skills in real life contexts.
The content of the course is based on the higher GCSE specification with some new topics included and others extended to challenge the pupils further. A student with a grade C on the foundation paper can still access the material as skills are reviewed before applying to new situations. New topics to be covered include personal finance, risk and critical paths.
The course is assessed by external examinations – one of which is based on a set of pre-release data. The questions are presented in a mix of formats to ensure they are accessible to pupils of all abilities.
