The Sixth Form Calendar follows that of the main school but has certain differences that reflect the needs of Sixth Form students. The start to the term in September is staggered to enable staff and students to devise the individual timetable for each student, and to ensure that students are following the course which is in their best interests.
There is no study leave for the January module exams, but there is study leave for the June exams. Students wishing to return to Year 13 must return to Academy after their summer Year 12 exams are completed. The last weeks of the summer term are when the second Year A2/AVCE/BTEC courses start. Vital work is done during this time, and students who miss this session may not be able to continue with the course in September.
ID Badges
ID badges will be issued and it is essential that you wear them at all times. This allows staff to maintain the safety and security of the sixth form area. You will also need your ID badges for all external examinations. If you do not have your ID badge with you, you will not be allowed to sit the examination.
Canteen
The Sixth Form has its own facilities which are open continuously through the day. It is not overseen by members of staff, and this means that students are expected to take responsibility for the upkeep of the area, both in the Canteen, in the adjacent corridor, and in the outside seating area. All litter should be cleared by the individual. Students are still welcome to have meals in the main dining area in Main school. Please confine eating to these areas, as it creates a better atmosphere for everybody. The smell of food is not pleasant in teaching rooms or study areas.
Car Parking
Car parking for sixth form students is not available unless there are special circumstances. If you wish to use the Academy car park and you have what you believe is a valid reason, you must see Mr. Bennett to discuss the issue and receive the necessary authorisation for a pass through the car park barrier.
Sixth Form Area
Recently the Academy has received funding to imporve the facilities in the Sixth form. Below is a video (created by one of our students on the A level ICT course) that highlights some of the improvements.
